When you design your printing and packaging, are you confused about choosing the right color mode? This article may offer you some guidance.
CMYK Color Printing
CMYK: It is a very common color system in paper printing, which combined with C(Cyan), M(Magenta), Y(Yellow), K(Black). If the printing color is defined by CMYK, the printer only need to adjust the oil rate of Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and Black.
If the printing material is different, the effect of the same CMYK code will be different either. e.g, Print on paper and leather; Print on woodfree paper and coated paper.
Pantone Color Printing
Pantone: Pantone is a color system defined by a particular ink, and the color is determined at the time of manufacture or input to the printer. Is currently the world’s most accurate control of color mode. Please note that each manufacturer produces a different pantone color card, if the color requirements are very high, it is best to inform the printer to use the same company with the same version of the color card to match the color.
When you select the color, please confirm your printing material first. If printing on paper, coated paper need to choose the coated pantone cards, if woodfree paper, please choose the uncoated.
The printing machines need to do the cleaning each time after print 1 Pantone color, so the color would be much higher. However, the CMYK printing does not need to do this.
How To Choose?
1.To check your design, if there are only 1~4 colors, it would be fine to use Pantone color. If there are many kinds of colors, you may consider using CMYK or choosing several colors by Pantone.
2. Requirement on color, if you are strict on color and need to make each batch of printing almost the same, Pantone color would be easy to help you. If not, CMYK color would be a better choice consider the lead time and cost.
3. CMYK color is only defined by 4 oils, some of the colors are not able to reach, Pantone color would bring you more choices.
4.There are metallic Pantone color oils, if you want your printing in metallic lustre and the printing which are in very large area, Pantone color would be a good choice, of course, the printed metal color would be not so shiny as the foiled stamping color.
All in all, choosing which kind of color system depends on your design, budget, and the requirements of the color matching. If you have any interest or questions, you are welcomed to contact us.
